So you have decided to straighten your teeth! Congratulations! You will be joining the ranks of millions of adults who have decided to take the orthodontic plunge.
As our dentist, Dr. Hetal Rana will tell you, it may take longer to straighten your teeth than it would for a younger person. Your jaws have stopped growing making it harder to realign your smile. If you have had teeth removed over the years, those empty spaces may not make good homes for your teeth as they shift.
Once you have your new braces, you will need to take care of your teeth. That means brushing your teeth 30 minutes after every meal and snack. Start with your top teeth. Brush along your gum lines first. Then brush from the gum line to the brackets, and then from the brackets down. Then brush along with wire. Take your time as you brush, focusing on one or two teeth at a time. You may find it difficult to floss your teeth with your braces. Traditional dental floss may prove to be frustrating and difficult, so you may want to talk to our dentist, Dr. Hetal Rana about using a floss threader, water flosser or a floss pick.
